Cape Charles Yacht Club

Born and raised in Kansas, Jim joined the U.S. Navy in 1967. After starting as a Boson’s Mate swabbing decks on the USS Holder (DD-819), he later graduated from the University of Kansas and was commissioned a U.S. Air Force second lieutenant in 1980. Retiring in 2001 he continues to support the Air Force as a contractor. Jim and his wife Maggie moved to Cape Charles and joined the CCYC in 2017. 

Rob was born and raised in the Blacksburg, Virginia area, spending much of that time boating and fishing with his parents on Claytor Lake and the New River, and later learned to sail while at Navy OCS in Newport, Rhode Island. In the Navy, Rob served as a Surface Warfare Officer during operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf. Rob and his wife Ann raised their two girls in the Nashville Tennessee area and moved permanently to Cape Charles in 2022 after spending many summers on the Eastern Shore. They enjoy spending time with family, especially their new granddaughter, exploring the Eastern Shore, and boating on Nassawadox Creek.

Chip and Lisa have been boaters for many years.  Chip, since birth and Lisa, since she met Chip back in 1995.  Since they’ve been together, they have had 10 different boats….all power, but of a whole range of sizes from a 19’ skiff to a 45’ sportfish.   They have been coming to Cape Charles since the early 2000s and moved here full time in 2017.  Boating up and down the Chesapeake Bay has been their passion. They have boated as far south as Hatteras and as far north as Norwalk, CT, where they purchased their most recent boat.  Upcoming travels include two months boating down the ICW to St. Augustine, Florida.  As 2024 Big Boat Captains, they look forward to leading the yacht club through some new adventures!!

Bob moved to Cape Charles in 2005 after retiring from the Department of the Navy. Bob was also a Naval Reserve officer and was licensed as a Third Mate in the merchant marine. He and his wife Sue enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding and cruising around in their small power boat.

Having grown up outside of Boston, Ellen spent many summers on Cape Cod where she enjoyed sailing in Nantucket Sound with her brother.  Ellen spent 12 years in New Mexico where her three children were born, but missing family and the ocean, she moved back to MA in 2002.  She and her husband Steve moved to northern NH for several years where Ellen enjoyed a banking career before retiring and moving to Cape Charles in 2021.  She and Steve are enjoying being by the water, playing golf and the great community of Cape Charles.

Davies was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland, learning to sail at Severn Sailing Association and spending many summer days on the Severn River.  Virginia Tech graduates, Davies and his wife, Beth, lived and worked in Virginia Beach for 40 years where they raised their 3 children. They owned and operated numerous boats along the way.  Moving to Cape Charles in 2018, they enjoy spending time with their children and 4 grandchildren, the beach, and anything nautical.

Beth retired from the telecommunications industry in northern Virginia in 2015 and moved to Cape Charles with her husband, John.  She met her first friends here learning to play Mah Jongg and then with the Cape Charles Yacht Club.  She volunteers for various civic and philanthropic organizations in Northampton County.  She enjoys walking the beach and local parks, book club, kayaking, and cooking.  Above all, she and John travel internationally at least a month a year to learn about the history and culture of other countries, including John's birthplace, England.  

Lori and her husband, Ian, moved from Manassas to Cape Charles in 2020 and soon afterward joined the Yacht Club.  A retired middle/high school math teacher, Lori spends her time volunteering with the Northampton County Education Foundation and Shore Mentors.  In her spare time, she loves to play golf with the Bay Creek ladies.  Although not much of a sailor (the seasickness is real), she does enjoy kayaking in the Bay, strolling the shore looking for beach glass, and watching those gorgeous Eastern Shore sunsets!

Walter and I raised three children on various boats in Annapolis. Long cruises were fun as members of the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake (SCC) since 1980. We loved “gunk-holing” in creeks and rivers in the northern Bay. A very memorable trip with the SCC was sailing from Annapolis to honor the bicentennial of the Constitution in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The whole SCC fleet proceeded into Penn’s Landing Civic Marina with full colors, “dressed ship”.

As a board member, I was involved in fundraising for the Hospice Cup Regatta (a CBYRA racing day major event) for several years.  Walter and I have sailed in Greece, the British Virgin Islands. We have delivered a 40 foot Panda from Annapolis to Newport RI and crewed during several Annapolis Parades of Lights in the harbor at Christmas.

Paul & Nicki have always been working to protect and take care of the environment. They love canoeing and kayaking, as well as hiking and birding. On all of their adventures, picking up trash is always a big part of them.  They are excited to be Captain and First Mate of Road Clean-Up, and hope a lot of other members will join them for our clean-up days.
