CCYC LEADERSHIP

If you have found your way to this site, then you must have heard about, or have already explored, Cape Charles by water. Maybe you are a “been”, “come”, or “stay” here who simply enjoys the camaraderie of other sailors. It is with this in mind that the Cape Charles Yacht Club was founded in 2012 for the purpose of encouraging and supporting yachting in Cape Charles and the surrounding waters; promoting social and recreational fellowship among boaters in Cape Charles; and advocating safety, boating education and etiquette, and responsible marine stewardship. These goals require competent leadership.

Beth Calder

Membership Captain

Beth retired from the telecommunications industry in northern Virginia in 2015 and moved to Cape Charles with her husband, John.  She met her first friends here learning to play Mah Jongg and then with the Cape Charles Yacht Club.  She volunteers for various civic and philanthropic organizations in Northampton County.  She enjoys walking the beach and local parks, book club, kayaking, and cooking.  Above all, she and John travel internationally at least a month a year to learn about the history and culture of other countries, including John's birthplace, England.

Ron Wrucke

Ron and his wife, Sherry, both retired in June 2006 and found the perfect place here in Cape Charles.  Besides photography (http://easternshoreimaging.com), Ron's other hobbies include golf and poking around the yard and gardens.  It is amazing how much satisfaction one can derive from making a long putt or destroying a big weed … !!!  Where better than Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore of Virginia to pursue these retirement dreams?

John Calder.jpg

John Calder

Beverage Captain

Imported into the US from the UK by my wife Beth 25 years ago. I finished my career in telecommunications in Northern Virginia before retiring and moving to Cape Charles in 2015.  I keep busy doing yardwork, exercising at the Life Center gym, walking the Bay Creek beach, running or walking the Preserve and volunteering for Main Street and the Cape Charles Rotary Club. When the weather is accommodating, I road cycle and train for the Between the Waters bike ride, which I have entered for the past 5 years.  My one last pleasure which I can be found doing most evenings, is to watch the sunset either from my back deck, or in front of my firepit enjoying a Bourbon barrel aged Imperial Stout - delicious!
